Jeremy Newmark re-elected as councillor after police drops investigation

Jeremy Newmark has been re-elected as Hertsmere councillor after police dropped their yearlong investigation into allegations of fraud. 

Newmark, a former Leadership Council chief executive (JLC) and Jewish Labour Movement chair, will represent Borehamwood Cowley Hill ward on Hertsmere Borough Council, alongside two other Labour councillors.

Cllr Newmark received 733 votes, with Richard Butler and Michelle Vince each securing 879 and 866 votes respectively.

He said: “I’m delighted to have been re-elected to Hertsmere Borough Council and to have won a seat from the Tories on Elstree and Borehamwood Town Council where we reduced the Tory majority to just one.

“I’m looking forward to leading an enlarged opposition in the Hertsmere Chamber and will prioritise fighting for better infrastructure, more investment in public services and provision of genuinely affordable homes.”

A year-long investigation into alleged financial wrongdoing at the JLC by  Newmark ended last month after police opted to take no action against him.

Thousands of pounds were alleged to have been improperly spent by Newmark on holidays, car leases, and withdrawals of funds, all of which Newmark denied.
