Jewish beauty queen backs anti-hate campaign

A Jewish beauty queen in Germany spearheaded an anti-racism campaign across Europe to coincide with Human Rights Day on Tuesday.

Tamar Morali, the first Jewish contestant in the Miss Germany Cooperation (MGC) contest, is involved in the ‘Shalom’ campaign highlighting racist or antisemitic incidents and rhetoric plaguing parts of Germany and the EU.

Morali brings a substantial online profile to the initiative, with her 30 million social media followers, and has used her brand-power to bring other influencers and celebrities on board in recent weeks.

“In recent years there have been several racist and antisemitic incidents in Germany and Europe, which impacted all of us,” Morali said, highlighting the attack on a synagogue in Halle in October.

“These incidents should neither be accepted nor tolerated – by anyone!

“This is why we feel obliged to emphasise Shalom to raise awareness for a brighter and [more] peaceful future.”

She added: “Instead of only the media or Jewish organisations reporting about antisemitic incidents, I want some of Germany’s biggest influencers on Instagram to talk about these topics, so that a younger generation and furthermore, people in general who never heard about antisemitism before, will be aware of what it is.”
