Jewish Crohn’s charity launches ‘Jewish Digest’ help website

A charity for Jews with Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis has launched a new website offering medical, dietary and lifestyle advice for sufferers.

Jewish Digest, a volunteer-run group based in the UK, took the step because large numbers of people in the Jewish community suffer from Inflammatory Bowel Disease.

“The website will provide information and support for them and their families, as well as being an online community for those interested in connecting with other sufferers,” said founder Deborah Eckstein.

“It is easy to feel isolated, as people don’t feel comfortable talking about their bowel issues over Friday night dinner.”

Inflammatory Bowel Disease is more prevalent in the Jewish community, with Ashkenazi Jews are approximately four times more likely to develop Crohn’s Disease or Ulcerative Colitis than non-Jews.
