Jewish Labour Movement nominates Lisa Nandy and Ian Murray ahead of contest

The Labour Party’s Jewish affiliate has nominated leadership and leader hopefuls Lisa Nandy and Ian Murray.

The Jewish Labour Movement, affiliated to the party for a century, balloted thousands of members.

It announced the result of its ballot on Friday following hustings in London and Manchester at which candidates vowed to mend relations with the community.

Nandy, the MP for Wigan, earned her nomination in the first round with 50.9 percent of the vote. She was followed by Keir Starmer on 45.3 percent, with Emily Thornberry and Rebecca Long-Bailey trailing behind on under 2 percent.

Murray, the MP for Edinburgh South, secured his nomination in the second round, with 50.2 percent of the vote. His rival Rosena Allin-Khan received 49.8 percent of the vote.

Mike Katz, national chair of the affiliate group, said: “The last few years have been soul destroying for too many Jewish Labour members. We hope that today is the beginning of a healing process.

” Both demonstrated at our hustings events that they understand the issues facing the party and the need for radical change.”

Lisa Nandy said:  “I am proud to have received the backing of the Jewish Labour Movement and the thousands of Party members they represent. JLM has been affiliated to the Labour Party for a century, and I am honoured that they have put their trust in me to lead our Party back to power.”
