Jewish leadership conference draws online crowd of 200

Event organised by the United Synagogue gains biggest ever audience as peers and rabbis take to the virtual stage.

Almost 200 people attended the 'Inspired Jewish Leadership Conference' on Sunday

Almost 200 people joined an online Jewish leadership conference organised by the United Synagogue on Sunday, with sessions aimed at sharing ideas.

Organisers hailed it as “the largest attendance ever” annual event which included 16 breakout sessions and 30 presenters as the day began with an introduction from Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis.

Among the keynote speakers was Lord (Leslie) Turnberg, president of the All Party Britain-Israel Parliamentary Group, who resigned from the parliamentary Labour group last year, citing “overt antisemitism that permeates the party machine”.

Other speakers included Elkan Levy, a former president of the United Synagogue and well-known Anglo-Jewish historian, who gave a presentation on United Synagogue’s origins and history.

Aviva Wilford, Women’s Officer at Northwood United Synagogue, said it was “definitely worth giving up most of Sunday for,” adding: “I picked up some good ideas to pass back to our Council.”
