Jewish schools network serves up free meal vouchers for holiday season

PaJeS extends voucher scheme to reduce financial burden for Jewish families this Chanukah

The United Synagogue provides weekly food packages

The umbrella group for Jewish schools is providing help to financially pressured families this Chanukah.

In a continuation of a scheme it ran last summer, PaJeS (Partnerships for Jewish Schools), in collaboration with the Maurice Wohl Charitable Foundation, has made free meal vouchers available to the 1,200 pupils at more than 40 primary and secondary schools across the community who are registered for free school meals.

The move comes as the cost of living crisis once highlights issues of food poverty affecting children.

Rabbi David Meyer, chief executive of PaJeS, said: “Chanukah should be a time of celebration, but for those facing financial difficulties this can be a particularly challenging time.  With thanks to the schools and our generous supporters, we are pleased to have been able to reach out to these families and give them some assistance. We hope that in true Chanukah spirit it will help bring light and joy into their homes.”
