Jewish students studying in the UK are to debate the meaning of Zionism in 2017 next month as part of a series of events celebrating the centenary of the Balfour Declaration.

The panel events for students on 6 November, organised by the Union of Jewish Students (UJS) in conjunction with Balfour100, will explore the various meanings and perceptions of Zionism in the Jewish student community.

Exploring topics such as self-determination will be representatives from Yachad, Stand With Us, the Zionist Federation and We Believe In Israel.

“The centenary celebrations present a unique opportunity to reclaim Zionism, and explore and discuss different perceptions,” said UJS campaigns officer Sam Gold.

“Such an important and nuanced term should be celebrated, which is why we are looking forward to the panel discussion featuring a broad range of experts on the topic.”
