A charity supporting women affected by domestic abuse and sexual violence has appointed a new CEO.

Jewish Women’s Aid today announced that Sam Clifford, former co-director of the Jewish Museum, will take up the role in April 2024.

Clifford is a community stalwart with a varied career within the Jewish charity sector. Most recently executive director of Finchley Reform Synagogue (FRS), she was the interim co-director of the Jewish Museum, having also held the position of Director of Development.

Clifford also spent 5 years working as a freelance project manager supporting organisations such as the Office of the Chief Rabbi, Lead, the Jewish Volunteering Network (JVN), the Jewish Leadership Council (JLC), Women in Jewish Leadership, Nisa-Nashim: the Jewish Muslim Women’s Network and Moishe House alongside working as the first professional director of the Yoni Jesner Foundation.

She was one of the founding professional staff of Lead, the Jewish Leadership Council’s leadership development division working on their leadership programmes and events.

Upon her appointment, Sam Clifford said: “I am incredibly honoured to have been appointed as CEO of Jewish Women’s Aid – a vitally important organisation within our community.  JWA is blessed with a committed and inspiring trustee board, dedicated and talented staff and volunteers; all charged with working to both support women and girls living with domestic abuse and sexual violence, as well as educating our young people, community leaders and beyond through our outreach and prevention programme. Sadly, we live in a world where violence against women and girls is never far from the news, and I am looking forward to bringing my professional skills and passion to help amplify and strengthen the work of Jewish Women’s Aid.”

Caroline Ratner, Chair of Trustees said: “The board is delighted to announce the appointment of Sam Clifford as the new CEO of Jewish Women’s Aid. She brings with her passion for women’s causes and a wealth of experience working within the Jewish community. We look forward to working closely with Sam once she takes up her post in the spring.”

Clifford takes over from Monica Tuohy, who stepped in after the departure of Alison Rosen after just one month in post.
