Jewish youth movements to hold vigil for terror victims

Members of nine different Jewish youth movements will hold a vigil for victims of the Paris terror attacks tonight.

The Zionist Youth Council have organised an event to commemorate the murder of 130 people on Friday during a shootings and bombings in the French capital. 

Organisations including Bnei Akiva, Reform and Liberal Judaism will be represented at the event at JW3. A Facebook event has been created, which highlights that it will commemorate those who died in Paris, but will also remember victims of “terror around the world”.

Natasha Shaw, Reform’s RSY-Netzer Movement Worker and Zionist Youth Council Co-Chair, said, “we believe it is important to mark the events of Friday 13th November 2015 by coming together as a community. We express our solidarity with the victims of the coordinated terrorist attacks across Paris and stand, with communities across the world, against these acts of hate and terror.”

Amos Schonfield, Noam Mazkir (National Manager) and Zionist Youth Council Co-Chair, added, “All our members are horrified by the actions that we have seen not only in Paris, but also across the world. We believe that this moment transcends our ideological differences as movements as we mourn the loss of life and stand together with the people of Paris.”

It will be the first public event for the ZYC, which represents Jewish youth movements across the political and religious spectrum, including Bnei Brith Youth Organisation, Bnei Akiva, Federation of Zionist Youth, Habonim Dror, Liberal Judaism’s LJY-Netzer, Noam Masorti, Reform’s RSY Netzer, Sinai, and the Tzofim.
