Europe’s largest Jewish secondary school has been graded ‘Good’ by Ofsted, less than one year after being put into special measures and judged ‘Inadequate’ by inspectors.

The new assessment, which immediately takes the school out of special measures, sees the comprehensive significantly jump two places in the Ofsted grading – bypassing grade 3 ‘Requires Improvement’.

A positive monitoring visit in November 2021 found that “leaders and those responsible for governance are taking effective action towards the removal of special measures; the local authority’s statement of action is fit for purpose and the school’s improvement and action plans are fit for purpose.”

Inspectors also praised the school, whose new headteacher David Moody has been in place since December 2021, for its “academic achievements and the breadth of curriculum”. However, they found student behaviour had been poor and there were “significant gaps in its safeguarding provision, particularly in the area of sexual bullying via social media”.
