JFS students mark end of project celebrating prayer

Students at Europe’s largest Jewish secondary school took part in a special ceremony on Monday, for the end of an initiative celebrating prayer.
A cohort of 300 JFS pupils marked the culmination of the Tefilah project, after each student was given a new Koren Siddur (prayer book), developed especially for younger people.
The ‘Chagigat Siddur’ ceremony was attended by more than 200 parents as well as JFS President Lord Levy and senior rabbi of the S&P Sephardi Community, Rabbi Joseph Dweck.
After participating in a special morning service, Year 7 pupil Hannah Pillemer addressed her peers, before pupils engaged with an explanatory service – aimed to make prayer more accessible.
The project was conceived by Deputy Headteacher Daniel Marcus, the Jewish Studies department and the Jewish Informal Education Programme (JiEP) at the school.
Headteacher Rachel Fink said: “We are delighted to provide our students with an ever expanding range of opportunities to develop and enhance their knowledge of Jewish prayers and spirituality. It was an honour to stand together with our Year 7 in prayer in such a powerful and meaningful way”.
