However, the Blues did enough to win and took all three points thanks to Josh Kennet’s 14th minute goal which extends the gap to the drop zone to 11 points – an exact replica of the previous Saturday’s result, with Kennet scoring the only goal in a 1-0 win.
Creating the goal, Tommy Tejan-Sie beat his man by the left touchline and drilled the ball low in to Ola Sogbanmu. His header was parried by the keeper Marcus Garnham and Josh Kennet smashed the ball home from close range into the roof of the net.
Spencer McCall had a shot from 18 yards deflected and it ended up straight at Marcus Garnham in a half with few clear chances of note.
Bury’s Billy Clark was taken off injured after an innocuous challenge, and after a lengthy delay was taken to hospital.
The second half was a slow affair as both sides struggled to get going. Striker Nnamdo Nwachuku went down under a challenge of Ahmet Rifat but the referee waived away the penalty claims. Seb Dunbar then fired a shot well off target from distance.
The closing staging were tense and Jack Brand fired a low free kick which was deflected off Marc Weatherstone, but Bobby Smith reacted well to change direction and gather.
