‘Lack Friday’ campaign urges help for poverty-stricken Jews
World Jewish Relief launches a campaign to help needy people of Ukraine, Belarus, Georgia and Moldova
World Jewish Relief launches its response to the upcoming annual shopping bonanza ‘Black Friday’ by unveiling its latest campaign, called #LackFriday.
The agency said that “whereas Black Friday sees British shoppers splurge on new TVs and clothes, #LackFriday will showcase powerful images from around the world of Jewish people who lack warm food, a warm home or warm relationships”.
Starting on Friday, it is scheduled to last one week, until 25 November, the day when consumers across the country will storm the shops and retail websites in the hope of a bargain.
World Jewish Relief is asking people to buy needy Jews in Ukraine, Belarus, Georgia and Moldova a £5 food card, £5 of fuel for winter or £5 towards a visit from a homecare worker.
“We want to challenge people’s thinking on Black Friday,” said Richard Verber, the charity’s head of external affairs.
