Liberal summer camp closes early as Covid ‘precaution’
The movement said its decision to close the summer camp two days early was a precaution and that it did not take the decision lightly.
A summer camp run by Liberal Judaism has been forced to close two days early after a positive Covid case.
The Machaneh Kadimah camp for youngsters aged eight to fifteen-years-old was due to run until Sunday, but closed early today as a precaution.
Officials at LJY-Netzer, Liberal’s youth movement, said that the decision was made to close early to ensure safety. All suspected cases were made to isolate in line with public health guidance.
It comes after a summer camp run by the United Synagogue on the Isle of Wight was affected by Covid cases, meaning some children had to be sent home early.
It is understood the number of cases were very small.
Rabbi Charley Baginsky, the CEO of Liberal Judaism, said: “Our 12 days of Kadimah summer camp were a wonderful and important experience for our members.
“However, our risk assessment reached the point where we felt it was necessary to end camp two days early.
“We did not take this decision lightly and we would have liked to finish Kadimah 5781 on the high it deserves – but our main priority was the safety and wellness of our LJY-Netzer members.”
The two-week camp, which runs annually, did not go ahead last year because of the pandemic.
Those who had booked onto the camp were able to transfer their fees to this year, or to ask for a refund.
