In her new year message, the PM speaks of Rosh Hashanah as 'a moment of renewal' adding the new year brings 'a new government and a new era for our country'

Liz Truss delivered her first Rosh Hashanah greeting as PM

Prime Minister Liz Truss has compared the “moment of renewal” when Jewish families gather to celebrate Rosh Hashanah with her own attempt to bring a “new government and a new era for our country.”

In a New Year video message to the community, Truss also said the as PM she would “promise to champion our Jewish community.”

She said:”As Jewish families come together to celebrate Rosh Hashanah it is a moment of renewal.

“This new year brings a new government and a new era for our country.”


Speaking from inside Downing Street, she added:”I am determined to stamp out antisemitism.

“I will be a staunch friend of Israel and I will always be on your side.”

The video was shared on social media on Sunday, ahead of the start of the Rosh Hashanah.

Some tweets made light of the PM’s Hebrew pronunciation.
