The London School of Jewish Studies (LSJS) is making its long-running women’s parasha (Torah portion) class free of charge.

The Monday morning class (10.30am UK) this term is themed Sefer Shemot (God in our midst) and this week’s class was dedicated to fallen soldier Daniel Bogdanovski and hostage Daniela Gilboa.

Joanne Greenaway, LSJS chief executive said: “We are delighted that we can now offer students the chance to start their week with fresh and inspiring ideas and insightful textual analysis on the parasha for free.

“The class provides women with one of the most advanced textual opportunities for Torah study in the UK, while also remaining accessible to new students. We are thrilled that we now have a sponsor for the class.”

Pupils are given source sheets prior to the session and chavruta (friendship) time is available in advance, either on Zoom or at the LSJS campus. The interactive and text-based lesson always ends with a meaningful message from the weekly sedra.

The class is taught by Rabbanit Leah Herzog until 19th February and by Rebbetzin Lauren Levin on the 4th and 11th of March.

LSJS says that this term “focuses on the biggest challenge for the Children of Israel, as they transition into a free nation – the ability to live with G-d in their midst.”

Rabbanit Leah Herzog is an educator, writer, tour guide and instructional coach who teaches at Matan and midrashot in Israel. Rebbetzin Lauren Levin is a Yoetzet Halacha and Rebbetzin at South Hampstead Synagogue.
