Lord Levy helps Hatzola Edgware unveil its first bespoke ambulance

The first new bespoke and purpose-built ambulance for Edgware Hatzola became operational this week as Orthodox Jewish leaders paid tribute to “a momentous milestone” for the emergency response organisation.

Former Labour Party fundraising chief Lord Michael Levy and Rabbi Shraga Feivel Zimmerman of the Federation of Synagogues unveiled the vehicle in the grounds of Tashbar School where local rabbis and Hatzola members gathered on Sunday.

Zimmerman paid tribute to all those who had raised funds for the ambulance during the coronavirus pandemic, which has led to increased demand.

Until this week, Edgware Hatzola has been using two old ex-NHS ambulances, but Zimmerman said it was “clear that they required a new, more reliable and better equipped emergency ambulance to meet their growing needs”.

Levy, a Mill-Hill resident, recently led Hatzola’s ‘Keep Moving’ campaign, to get the Over-65’s exercising while simultaneously raising money for the charity.

Dr Asher Lewinsohn, an anaesthetics and intensive care consultant, told supporters how important it was for ambulances to have up-to-date kit, while chair David Rabson launched the appeal for a second ambulance.
