Luciana Berger lends Jewish students’ support for mental health awareness campaign

Luciana Berger speaking at the UJS event

Top Labour politician Luciana Berger has leant her support to Jewish students’ mental health awareness campaign by highlighting the capacity of social media to help.

Berger, who last year became Shadow Minister for Mental Health in Jeremy Corbyn’s front-bench team, said one of the priorities was to “challenge the stigma” around mental ill health, estimated to cost the UK £106 billion.

Questions from the floor included the availability of anti-depressants, peer-support, mental health portrayal in films and TV, and whether there is more of a stigma within faith groups.

The event was part of the Union of Jewish Students’ Reclaim campaign, in conjunction with mental health charities JAMI and Nightline.
