Magen David Adom (MDA) will support Israel’s military rescue delegation following the 7.8 magnitude earthquake that rocked south-central Turkey on Monday.

The disaster has already claimed more than 5,000 lives, injured tens of thousands, and sent shock waves as far as Israel.

After consultations with the Israeli government, the Turkish Red Crescent, and the regional office of the Red Cross,  MDA will be involved in any assistance sent by Israel and form an essential part of the Red Cross’s response.

This will include sending paramedics and EMTs (emergency medical technicians) who have trained extensively in extracting injured people from rubble and treating a potentially fatal condition known as ‘crush syndrome’.

Turkey’s situation is exacerbated by a severe weather front that’s exposing people to freezing temperatures amid homes that are no longer habitable.

Your support will enable MDA to respond to this earthquake and to future natural disasters around the world.
