Salary: 20,000 –  24,000 per annum, depending on experience

BNJC (Brighton & Hove Jewish Community), based at 29-31 New Church Road, Hove will comprise residential, educational, cultural, religious, social and co-working facilities. By building a brand-new synagogue, outstanding kosher dining options and programming cultural events and classes, we aim to support Jewish life in Brighton, across the spectrum. We aim to put the outstanding seaside city of Brighton & Hove back on the Jewish map and attract the Jewish community from all backgrounds to call Brighton & Hove their home.

About the role:

We’re looking for an ambitious Marketing & Events Assistant to support with the day-to-day running of our marketing channels, and to assist with the coordination and promotion of our events programme. This permanent role is perfect for someone starting out in a career in Marketing & Communications with an interest in events, or for new graduates with a flair for creating content and all things digital.

Our primary aim is to raise awareness of our exciting development and vision to the local and national Jewish community and wider Brighton & Hove community, in the lead up to our opening later in 2022 and beyond. When we open, our programme will include a range of events from fitness classes to conferences, speaker evenings, film nights and workshops. In the lead up we have been building a largely virtual programme, including a monthly book-club, film screenings and panel discussions. This role offers a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to make a real difference to our cultural offer and become a part of an exciting and unique community project.

We’re looking for someone with creativity, organisation and dedication. The successful applicant will have demonstratable experience working in marketing and communication, with an insight into event planning, and will be expected to support our Head of Marketing in content creation and management of social media channels, administration of our websites, email marketing and the coordination and promotion of our events programme.

This position reports to the Head of Marketing and will be part of our growing team. There may be some evening and weekend work depending on the event support needed. This role will initially be remote (with options for co-working in Brighton) but will move to a largely on-site position later in 2022, so the ability to work regularly in Brighton & Hove is essential.

Key Tasks/Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Head of Marketing in the administration of the website and social media channels
  • Work with the Head of Marketing to create, write, edit and proof content on the website via our Content Management System (CMS).
  • Take an active role in creating and scheduling content across BNJC’s social media channels
  • Work with the Head of Marketing to produce regular email newsletters for our database
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders to co-ordinate the delivery of marketing content
  • Work with the Head of Marketing to set up ticketing for events, ensuring all events are well promoted and communicating with event participants
  • Work with the Events Manager to support the coordination and planning of events
  • Assist with the on the day support for select events
  • Assist in the gathering of data for regular marketing reports on performance
  • To support the wider team with email enquiries, meeting coordination and maintenance of shared drives and files

Experience & Skills:

Essential:

  • At least one years experience working in marketing
  • Experience with content creation and monitoring social media channels
  • Excellent IT and digital skills and experience with IT packages and shared drives
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience in copywriting and writing for a specific audience
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Demonstratable experience in the coordination and planning of events
  • Experience using events marketing software, specifically Mailchimp and Eventbrite
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to work autonomously and to a deadline
  • Experience in carrying out general administrative duties, including maintaining systems, processes and handling queries.
  • Strong team player and a willingness to work flexibly and effectively with others

Desirable:

  • Familiarity and awareness of the Jewish faith, community and culture
  • Experience with graphic design e.g. using Photoshop or Canva
  • Experience with Google Analytics
  • Experience in video editing
  • Experience using a CMS system
  • Experience using social media scheduling software (e.g. Hootsuite)
  • Ability to use and interpret analytical data from social media
  • Strong photography skills
  • Knowledge and ability to use digital events platforms (Zoom)
  • Awareness of GDPR data requirements

Royal Mail issued a stamp honouring Holocaust hero Sir Nicholas Winton after a Jewish News campaign attracted more than 100,000 backers. Jewish Newsalso produces special editions of the paper highlighting pressing issues including mental health and Holocaust remembrance.
