Maureen Lipman joins protest against Palestinian intifada show

Maureen Lipman

Maureen Lipman took part in a protest outside a London theatre staging the premier of a Palestinian show about the second intifada.

The Siege, by the West Bank’s Freedom Theatre, is set in Bethlehem’s Church of the Nativity, where terrorists hid during the fighting in 2002. Lipman joined around 40 members of the Zionist Federation and Sussex Friends of Israel outside Battersea Arts Centre.

The group held signs with the names of Israelis killed by those depicted in the play. The production is currently being staged at theatres nationwide.

A ZF spokesperson said:  “It is highly questionable that a play that glorifies extremist ideology is being taken around the country. We suspect that a similarly uncritical and sympathetic treatment of the 7/7 bombers, for example, would not be accepted.”
