Mazeltov! Seven rabbis awarded rabbinical diplomas at Bevis Marks

Seven students of the Montefiore College have been awarded their rabbinical diplomas at a ceremony at Bevis Marks Synagogue.
The four or five-year part-time Montefiore Semicha study course is one of only two in the UK accepted for membership of the Rabbinical Council of America, alongside the Gateshead yore-yoreh simicha.
The Montefiore Endowment has now trained more than 20 new rabbis, including senior clergy from across the Orthodox religious spectrum.
Graduates have gone on to serve in the US, Australia, Hong Kong, Turkey, Germany, Portugal and Israel.
The diplomas were signed by Dayan Ezra Basri, Rav Yosef Carmel, Rabbi Zalman Nehemia Goldberg, Rabbi Abraham Levy, Rabbi Nahum Rabinovich and Rabbi Lord Sacks.
The UK contingent includes rabbis from the Sephardi Community, the United Synagogue, the Federation of Synagogues, Chabad and Charedi kehillot, described as “a rare example of religious inclusivity and one that is heart-warming to behold”.
The Montefiore Endowment is motivated by a desire “to strengthen Anglo-Jewry’s middle-of-the-road tradition”, which its says is fast being eroded by the extremes of the religious right and the religious left”.
It approaches halachic decision-making “with mildness, stresses the middle way and avoids extremes”.
