Meghan Markle’s ‘proud Jewish’ friend hits back at conspiracists in web row

Meghan Markle’s best-friend has hit back at her detractors after she was falsely accused of dismissing portraits of Holocaust survivors for Jewish News captured by the Duchess of Cambridge.

Jessica Mulroney denied the accusation in an apparently deleted Instagram story. “As a proud Jewish woman with family links to the Holocaust, any insinuation that I would treat the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz with anything but respect is shameful and uniformed,” she wrote on Thursday.

The 40-year-old Canadian fashion stylist is reportedly a close friend of Markle’s and apparently helped the Duchess of Sussex plan her Royal wedding in 2018.

She was dragged into a social media war this week for writing in an Instagram story on Monday: “Pretty pictures are pretty pictures. Strive to use your platform for good and spread stories of incredible people striving to make this world a better place.”

The post sent the internet into a tailspin, with conspiracists interpreting the wording as veiled criticism of Kate Middleton’s snaps of survivors for Jewish News, released on Monday to mark Holocaust Memorial Day.

But Mulroney’s husband Ben clarified on Tuesday the Instagram story was unrelated to Middleton’s Holocaust Memorial Day pictures.

He said it was a call to action, accompanying Mulroney’s Instagram appeal for donations to support families of the 176 passengers and crew members of the downed passenger flight between Iran and Ukraine, shot down by the Iranian military earlier this month.

“This is what matters. Helping families pick up the pieces after devastation. @ceo_mohamad.paramount is just about the best Canadian around. He is trying to raise money for the families who lost their loved ones on flight 752. Link in my bio to help him reach his goal. Please support,” Mulroney wrote in an Instagram caption on Monday.
