The Jewish Leadership Council [JLC]’s vision is a UK Jewish community with diverse, effective and sustainable leadership driving innovative and impactful organisations securing our community’s future.

Our mission is to support development and excellence in our member organisations, challenging them to lead the way in sustaining, building, and celebrating vibrant Jewish communities across the UK.

Collective responsibility and collaborative leadership have been the driving principles of the JLC since it was founded and underpin how the JLC:

We are proud that the JLC’s current 37 members are communal organisations from across the spectrum of Jewish life, including national synagogue denominations, care organisations, education charities, regional representative councils and the Board of Deputies.

The role

The Membership Manager will work in close partnership with JLC members and specifically with the Head of Strategic Collaboration. The Membership Manager is a new role within the organisation that has been built around our understanding of a need to connect and coordinate our members most effectively. There is scope for the right candidate to shape the role alongside the senior leadership to make the most impact.

They will be a key point of contact within the JLC for member organisations. They will work in close collaboration with the JLC professional and lay leadership, as well as its divisions, to ensure the needs of its members are understood and met. They will track member engagement within the team and report on this regularly.

They will help the JLC fulfil its role as a member-focused organisation by identifying ways to magnify and amplify the voices of its members. They will identify areas of mutual interest amongst JLC members and help to connect and coordinate them on these issues. They will help to strengthen and support the work of JLC members to further their success.

They will understand the breadth of the work of the JLC and will be an ambassador for the organisation among its membership. They will support the Co-CEOs in their relationship building with member organisations and ensure that they, and the wider JLC team, are informed on relevant areas across the membership.
They will further develop relationships with key stakeholders, including our Vice Presidents, and will support a variety of our working groups.

Person specification

We are passionate about the role of the JLC in the community and specifically the way in which we can serve our members.

We are looking for someone who is committed to the sustainability of the Jewish community and its infrastructure. This role will require someone who is driven, dynamic and innovative. They will be a self-starter and an excellent relationship builder. They will think creatively and understand how to find solutions to complex problems.

This role will give you an opportunity to work with the community’s major Jewish communal organisations within a dynamic and exciting team. It will provide opportunity and scope for personal and professional growth supported by our leadership.

Specific responsibilities

 Be a main point of contact for the JLC membership on key issues, events, strategic thoughts and a conduit to the wider JLC team to connect and coordinate our membership
 Build and maintain strong, long-lasting relationships with JLC members and their teams
 Drive and nurture relationship building across our teams and membership
 Facilitate existing and develop new fora for collaborative working across JLC members to connect, share best practice and discuss common areas of challenge and opportunity
 Raise awareness of the breadth of services and offering of the JLC to its member organisations
 Brief the Co-CEOs and relevant team members on member activity
 Develop communication on member activity for our stakeholders
 Develop membership processes including reports on member activity, member application and induction packs and a membership commitment/charter
 Track, analyse and report on membership engagement across the JLC group
 Ensure data on member organisations and tracking of member engagement is meaningful and informative to the strategic planning of the JLC
 Supporting the wider team where appropriate

Essential Qualities

 Knowledge of the UK Jewish community
 The ability to work independently and manage a varied workload
 The ability to work as part of a dynamic and fast paced team
 The ability to manage multiple projects whilst prioritising effectively
 The ability to build effective working relationships with a range of stakeholders
 Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
 Demonstrable experience in working creatively and being solutions focused
 Willingness to develop their leadership

Desirable Qualities

 Knowledge of the UK Jewish community’s infrastructure
 Knowledge of the global Jewish community
 Knowledge of the wider Third Sector in the UK
 Understanding the remit of a membership organisation

The salary range of this role is: £32,000 – £34,000 commensurate with experience

We offer a holiday allowance of 20 days in addition to relevant Jewish festivals and bank holidays
