Mental health and wellbeing resource launched for the community

Five ways to Wellbeing and Judaism was created in consultation with two London rabbis and with the support for the London Jewish Forum, Jami, Maccabi GB and the local authority

A new resource has been launched to promote better wellbeing and mental health within the Jewish community.

The ‘Five ways to Wellbeing and Judaism’ leaflet was created in consultation with Rabbi Miriam Berger and Rabbi Daniel Epstein, with the support of numerous communal organisations.

It promotes stronger mental health with recommendations including connecting with other people, being physically active, learning something new every day, giving to others and paying attention to how you feel.

Delivered through a series of animations and videos, as well as a physical leaflet which draws on teachings – including from the late rabbi Lord Sacks, the initiative is supported by The London Jewish Forum, Jami, Maccabi GB and the London Borough of Barnet.

The NHS Good Thinking online mental wellbeing platform was launched in 2017, and a series of toolkits have since been released specific to different London communities.

Adrian Cohen and Andrew Gilbert, co-Chairs of the London Jewish Forum, said: “It is more important than ever that we take time to look after ourselves and our mental wellbeing. We are delighted to support and endorse” the scheme.

Ashley Lerner, Chief Executive of Maccabi GB, said as the “we firmly believe that being physically active improves mental wellbeing. Across all ages and all Jewish denominations, our commitment is to support the entire Community in its return to a healthy, post-pandemic ”
