Metropolitan Police increases patrols after Hamas supporters celebrate in London
The force also pledged "appropriate policing plan" for protests expected in the capital in the coming days
The Metropolitan Police has increased reassurance patrols in areas of London with large Jewish populations following the unprecedented attacks by Hamas on Israeli civilians and soldiers.
The force took to Twitter to say it was aware of a number of incidents in relation to the conflict after footage emerged of cars draped in Palestinian flags and hooting their horns travelling through the capital, apparently in celebration of the murderous attacks.
During recent conflicts in the Middle East, there has been a huge increase in antisemitic attacks targeting British Jews.
In its statement, the Met said: “The Met has increased policing patrols across parts of London in order to provide a visible presence and reassurance for our communities. We remain in contact with partners and community leaders to listen to any concerns.
“Anyone who experiences threatening behaviour or is worried about their safety is urged to contact police.”
It added: “We are aware that the ongoing conflict may lead to protests over the coming days. We will ensure that an appropriate policing plans is in place in order to balance the right to protest against any disruption to Londoners.”
