Miss Israel and Miss Iraq on front cover of Hebrew-language glossy magazine

Two beauty queens, Sarah Idan and Adar Gandelsman, pose together on the front of LaIsha lifestyle publication

Iraq’s Miss Universe 2017 posed with her Israeli counterpart on the front cover of a glossy Hebrew-language magazine this week.

Sarah Idan was pictured with Israeli model Adar Gandelsman for the ‘LaIsha’ lifestyle magazine for women.

Adar took to Twitter to post a picture of the magazine, saying “peace is popular”, several months after Idan had came under fire for posting a photo of the two on Instagram at a Miss World competition in December 2017.

Following the initiation selfie last year, the family of Sarah Idan, who now live in the United States, was forced to flee Iraq.

The two appeared on the front cover of ‘LaIsha’ a week after the two shared a series of pictures together in Jerusalem, in what appears to be a blossoming and unlikely friendship.

Idan arrived in Israel last week, with a tweet from Ofir Gendelman, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s spokesman to the Arabic media, saying: “Friendly relations between Israelis & Arabs will definitely help in ushering in a better tomorrow for all of us in the Middle East”.

Idan arrived in Israel to participate in the American Jewish Committee Global Forum in Jerusalem, and was cheered when she visited the Mahane Yehuda Market in Jerusalem, where she ate at an Iraqi-Jewish restaurant.
