Missing Elstree dad found near Heathrow after hundreds help with search effort

A father-of-two who went missing on Monday night was found by Shomrim volunteers near Heathrow Airport yesterday evening after hundreds took part in the search effort.

Jeremy Rabinovitch, 42, from Elstree, left the family home in the middle of the night on Monday and did not leave a note.

His Amanda was concerned for her husband’s welfare. The couple have a son aged six and a daughter aged 11 and had a still-born child in 2012.

Rabinovitch’s brother-in-law Ronnie King told JN:  “It’s a massive weight off and knowing that he’s safe now is the main thing.

“He is fine. He was, I think, sleeping in Terminal Five for one or two of the nights. He was keeping himself inside. He wasn’t out in the street.

“It was all blocked out so he couldn’t leave and I don’t think he had the finances to [board a flight].”

Rabinovitch has not yet given a reason for his disappearance but needs a few days to recover, King said. “He’s not in a great way so he needs to get some help,” he added.

Shromrim was in constant contact with the Met Police and Hertfordshire Constabulary and set up a centre in Brent Street where they monitored hundreds of phone calls and gave out geographic coordinates to search to volunteers.

“Searching in these circumstances is like trying to find a needle in a hay stack,” said Nochum Dewhurst, Shomrim search coordinator.

“We sent out hundreds of volunteers on an intelligence led basis with the limited information we had. Jeremy was found safe and well by a volunteer just four hours and fifteen minutes after we mobilised our search.”

Shomrim Chief Executive Gary Ost added: “The dedication, commitment, professionalism and determination of the volunteers who give up their time to look for someone they may or may not know personally is simply outstanding, and we a delighted that Jeremy has now been re-united with his family.
