Monkey ‘won over on Israel’ after tete-a-tete with Taub

Ambassador Taub in Gibraltar

Jewish News Diary: 03 July 2013

HE Ambassador Daniel Taub visited the British Overseas Territory of Gibraltar this week, and demonstrated that he will talk about Israel to all those who will listen, writes Stephen Oryszczuk.

During his trip, Taub addressed Gibraltar’s top political and Jewish community leaders (and some monkeys).

The visit, which sought to encourage closer ties between Israel and Gibraltar, included meetings with the Chief Minister, the Leader of the Opposition, the Mayor, and the President of the Gibraltar Jewish community James Levy.

Ambassador Taub noted the similarities between Gibraltar and Israel, saying: “We are talking about countries that are small, very vibrant countries, with an entrepreneurial spirit, which we hope have weathered the economic crisis with some degree of success. And as of last week I can say we are both countries with teams in UEFA!”

The monkey agreed with the assessment, adding: “I was impressed with what I heard from the ambassador, and have decided to drop my boycott of Israeli bananas.”
