Museums unite for exhibition ‘union of youth’
Union of Youth celebrates the work of key avant-garde artists of the 20th century at Moscow’s Jewish Museum
The Jewish Museum and Tolerance Centre, the Encyclopedia of Russian Avant-Garde and the State Russian Museum are staging a groundbreaking exhibition due to open in Moscow on Thursday, after a successful run
in St Petersburg.
The show, Union of Youth, celebrates the work of key avant-garde artists of the 20th century, many of them Jewish. The Union of Youth was a revolution in Russian art and included painting styles such as Symbolism and Cubo-Futurism.
The works will include both known and unknown artists — and are on loan from 15 museums from Russia and abroad, and three private collections. The show is being staged at Moscow’s Jewish Museum.
