Myeloma UK boss honoured
A successful businesswoman diagnosed with an incurable and debilitating cancer at the age of 33 has been honoured for helping to double life expectancy for sufferers.
Judy Dewinter, a mum-of-two from north London, was named as this year’s Jewish Care Topland Group Business Luncheon Award Winner at the Grosvenor House Hotel.
Judy had a successful career, heading the European division of a well-known stockbroker, when she was diagnosed with myeloma – a rare cancer affecting bone marrow cells. She joined the board of Myeloma UK, becoming chairman in 2004.
There, she doubled its income and instigated pioneering research projects, contributing to a doubling in the length of survival for myeloma patients.
