Newborn Israelis have sixth highest life expectancy

Babies born in Israel in 2015 have the sixth highest life expectancy, according to new figures released by the World Health Organisation (WHO).

Newborns in the Jewish state can expect to live to a ripe-old-age of 82.5 years old, according to 2015 research by the WHO.

Israel narrowly misses out on a top five spot, coming behind Japan, which is highest with 83.7 years. Ahead of Israel includes Switzerland and Singapore in second and third spot, whilst Australia, Spain, Iceland and Italy share fourth and fifth places respectively.

Britain performed better than other Western nations ranked at number 20, with a life expectancy of 81.2 years. The UK’s rating is higher than the United States where the average baby born in 2015 could expect to live 79.3 years and Germany where the average life expectancy is 81.

Sierra Leone takes the bottom spot on the list – babies born in the West African nation can only expect to live to 50.1 years.
