Nominations open for #No2H8 Crime Awards – honouring those who fight prejudice

A prestigious national award scheme honouring those who stand up to hate has just opened its nominations for the fifth time. 

The No2h8crime awards, which counts Jewish News among its partners, was created by a Muslim anti-hate crime activist working with a Jewish anti-hate crime activist. Anyone is allowed to nominate “Upstanders” – people who have “stood up against hate, crime and prejudice” – who are considered for the awards.

Past Jewish winners include former Labour MP Luciana Berger as well as Senior Masorti Rabbi Jonathan Wittenberg, who was honoured alongside Imam Mamadou Bocoum for interfaith work.

This year features awards for “Upstanders” in the media, local authorities, law enforcement, parliament, communities, social research, business and sport, as well as awards for young and London “Upstanders” and a lifetime recognition achievement.

In addition to the eleven categories, four special awards will be given, two of which are named after Sylvia Lancaster and her daughter Sophie, who was murdered by a gang in 2007. These two awards recognise individuals or organisations supporting young people at risk.

No2h8 co-founder Iman Atta said: “This is a very sensitive and difficult time for all. There are people who are extraordinary and who are showing real leadership in tackling hate and intolerance. This is their time to be recognised and to be valued. The awards has been precisely set up just for this”.

Nominations close on the 20th of October 2023 and can be made here. The awards will be held in central London on 16th November.
