Peer beaten in French Open qualifier

Peer won’t be playing in the singles tournament at this year’s French Open

Dudi Sela will be Israel’s sole singles representative at this year’s French Open after Shahar Peer was beaten in her third and final qualifier on Friday afternoon.

One match away from reaching the first round of the full draw, she was comprehensively beaten 6-2, 6-2 by Spaniard Lourdes Dominguez-Lino.

Following the exits of Julia Glushko and Amir weintraub, Israeli interest at Roland Garros centres on Sela who has been handed a tricky-looking first round draw against Russian Mikhail Kukushkin, who’s ranked 32 places above him the ATP single rankings. Should Sela reach the second round, he will face a potentially tougher tie against the 15th seed, Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

The tournament gets under way on Sunday.
