Peer defeated in final Wimbledon qualifier

Shahar Peer’s bid to reach this year’s Wimbledon Championships were ended on Thursday afternoon after she lost her third and final qualifier.

Up against American Bethanie Mattek-Sands, she was beaten 6-1, 6-4, meaning she failed to qualify for the main draw at SW19 for the second time in three years.

Her defeat means Dudi Sela will be Israel’s sole representative in the singles, while Yoni Erlich will be competing in the men’s doubles having battled through two rounds of qualifiers.
