Peer through to final round of Wimbledon qualifiers

Shahar Peer is now just one win away from reaching the main draw of this year’s Wimbledon Championships

Shahar Peer is one win away from reaching the main draw of this year’s Wimbledon Championships following a comfortable straight sets win over Romina Oprandi on Wednesday afternoon.

Having struggled to win yesterday’s first qualifier, she had relative trouble easing past her Swiss opponent, winning the match 6-4, 6-0. She will next face either American Bethanie Mattek-Sands or Frenchwomen Stephanie Foretz.

She wasn’t though as successful in her first round doubles qualifying tie when she and Barbora Krejcikova lost 6-2, 6-3 to Slovakian Jana Cepelova and Switzerland’s Stefanie Voegele.

Also hoping to make the main draw of the men’s double is Yoni Erlich, who partnering German Philipp Petzschner, take on GB duo Sean Thornley and Darren Walsh.
