Political leaders line up to praise Jewish Manifesto

David Cameron, Nick Clegg and Ed Miliband queued to compliment a ‘Jewish Manifesto’ prepared ahead of the European Parliamentary elections next week.

Conservatives, Liberal Democrats and Labour are all in campaign mode as the leaders of the three main political parties seek to rubberstamp their kosher credentials ahead of the vote on 22 May.

The manifesto, produced by the Board of Deputies, sets out to “inform existing and prospective Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) about Jewish interests and concerns”.

It outlines the Jewish community’s expectations of candidates in areas such as religious freedoms and EU relations with Israel.

“We believe that we have a shared responsibility to confront these issues and we are committed to doing so, both internationally and here at home,” wrote Labour leader Ed Miliband.

Prime Minister David Cameron called the document “important and thought-provoking”.
