Most Israelis want to see end of Netanyahu coalition – poll

Nearly 62 percent agree that those responsible for the failures of 7 October most resign

Most Israelis would like to see new elections by the end of 2024, according to a new poll released by the Israel Democracy Institute.

A little over 50% want to see fresh elections in 2024 while 15% want elections during 2025.

25% say that the government should be allowed to
complete its term of office as planned, and elections should be held in 2026.

Nearly 62% agree that the time has come for those who were responsible for the failure of October 7 to resign from their positions.

On the question of who should rule Gaza the day after the war, 32% say international force should govern the enclave; 13% want the Palestinian Authority to take over; 23% say Israel should maintain limited military presence to control Gaza military; 18% want Jewish settlements and 11% don’t know.

When asked whether, in retrospect, and in light of the severe Iranian response, Israel was correct to assassinate a top IRGC commander in Damascus, 69% said it was the right decision.

34% say that Israel in principle should agree to future establishment of a Palestinian state in return for a permanent regional defence agreement, after the United States, France, UK, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and UAE helped block the Iranian missile attack on Israel last week.

37% believe that Israel come off better than Hamas in the war, while nearly say its the other way around.

83% have seen either few or many pictures and video of Gaza destruction, with 43% saying they’ve seen the footage in Israeli media (television, press, news, websites) and 26% on social media.

War in Gaza Public Opinion Survey (15) was prepared by the Viterbi Center for Public Opinion and Policy Research of the Israel Democracy Institute. In the survey, which was conducted on the internet and by telephone (supplements of groups that are not sufficiently represented on the network) between 14-17 April 2024, 514 men and women were interviewed in Hebrew and 98 in Arabic, constituting a representative national sample of the entire adult population of Israel aged 18 and older. The maximum sampling error for the entire sample was 4.04% ± at a confidence level of 95%. The fieldwork was done by the Menachem Lazar Research.
