Rabbi Pinter: Health survey unlikely to meet needs of Stamford Hill community
The East London council has announced researchers will be carrying out a door-to-door survey of residents in the borough.
A leading Orthodox rabbi has cast doubt on whether a borough-wide health survey will meet the needs of Stamford Hill’s Charedi community.
The East London council has announced researchers will be carrying out a door-to-door survey of residents in the borough over the age of 16 between February and March.
Questions will range from levels of physical activity, diet, smoking and drinking habits, mental health, general wellbeing and awareness of certain public health services.
Rabbi Avroham Pinter, chairman of the Charedi Health Forum, told Jewish News: “I do not think it’s going to be particularly effective with the Charedi community.
“It’s also the wording of it and some of the issues raised are not going to be particularly Charedi-friendly.
“Some of the issues are not prevalent in the Charedi community which are very important issues like alcoholism.”
The leading rabbi said the Council has been successful in engaging with the Charedi community through other initiatives such as the Charedi Health Forum.
He added: “The council will use different avenues and they use them quite effectively on how to improve the health of the community.“
