Raiders masters hit seven to set up Chigwell cup final

Double-winners North London Raiders will be looking to complete a treble next Sunday morning against Chigwell

North London Raiders’ masters are 90 minutes away from completing a league and cup treble after they booked their place in the final of the MMFL/MGBSFL Cup on Sunday morning thanks to a 7-0 win over Faithfold masters.

Two goals from Saul Conway, along with strikes from David Fox, Richard Sacks, Andrew Wolfin, Danny Daggers and Jon Isaacs helped Elan Ovitz and Gavin Hodes’ side to a 7-0 win at the Hive.

Happy with the way his side performed, Ovits said: “We played really well today and scored some lovely goals.”

Facing Chigwell in what promises to be an intriguing match on Sunday, he said: “We’re confident we can beat them, but they may be more confident than us, we’ll need to be even sharper in the final.

“There’s no doubt they’ll be up for it and will play their strongest team. On the other hand, we’ll have a few high quality players missing due to injuries, so they may just have an advantage over us.”

And insisting talk of a treble couldn’t be further from his player’s minds, he said: “None of us are thinking about that, we just enjoy playing football together and look to do our very best.”

Raiders were runaway winners of the Maccabi Masters League Division 1, finishing 17 points clear of their nearest rivals, Chigwell, and then added to the trophy cabinet when they beat off the challenge of Waldaf Town to win the Henry Swerner Cup.

The final of the MMFL/MSL Invitation Trophy will take place at Silver Jubilee Park, Kingsbury this coming Sunday morning, and Raiders will start as firm favourites to win, and thereby writing their names in the Masters Football history book.
