Rainbow Jews founder ‘honoured’ to represent UK at Pride conference in Tel Aviv

Rainbow Jews founder Surat-Shaan Knan will represent the UK at a landmark LGBTQ conference to be held in Tel Aviv next month.

Knan has been invited to a talk on Jewish LGBTQ issues at a roundtable at the ’40 Years of Pride’ conference – where he will be the only UK presenter.

Coinciding with Tel Aviv Pride, the conference has been organised by Israel’s LGBT task force, The Aguda, and North America’s pro-Israel LGBT group, A Wider Bridge.

Pride attracts over 150,000 people from around the world every year, and the theme for 2015 is transgender visibility.

Knan, the Ritual Reconstructed project community coordinator, who also runs Liberal Judaism’s Twilight People, was nominated as a new Jewish LGBT pioneer by Haaretz at last year’s Tel Aviv Pride.

Surat said: “I feel honoured to have been invited by A Wider Bridge to participate and share my views”.

During the conference, Knan and other guests will take in a trip to Jersualem’s Old City, a visit to the national Holocaust museum Yad Vashem, and will meet with key policy makers in the Knesset.
