‘Baby bladerunner’ Rio Woolf has a new running blade to show off at the Rio Paralympics having become the first youngster in the UK to be fitted with the 1E93 Runner junior.

The eight-year-old is the new Ottobock and Dorset Orthopaedic – who fitted it – ambassador, and said: “I’m so excited to get my new running blade – it’s going to be super-amazing and it will help me to run even faster on the track and in the playground, I’ll also be even quicker on the tennis court and on the football pitch so will be able to score more goals!

“It’s super-cool to have a bendy blade for the first time which means I will be able to run better than I ever have before!”

Testing the new blade out at the Olympic Stadium track at Sunday’s Great Newham London Run, where he was honorary starter with Olympian Christine Ohuruogu for the 10K Run, he then took part in the 2K Family Run with his family, and will further show off his new blade at September’s Paralympics in September, having been invited to the Games by the President of the Brazilian Paralympic Committee.
