Rishi Sunak pays tribute to Zigi Shipper

Rishi Sunak has paid tribute to Holocaust survivor Zigi Shipper after MPs were told of the “very sad news” of his death during Prime Minister’s Question Time in the Commons.

The PM said:”I am very sorry to learn that Ziggy has passed away, and my thoughts are of course with his family.

“I know he was a man with wonderful, wonderful energy and humanity.”

Sunak added:”We must never forget the Holocaust.

“I know the whole House will join me in echoing Ziggy’s message, which is poignant and accurate, ‘Do not hate.'”

The MP Bob Blackman had initially alerted MPs to Ziggy’s passing, on his 93rd birthday during PMQs on Wednesday.

The Harrow East politician drew gasps from MPs across the House as he alerted them to the “very sad news” that the survivor had passed away in the early hours of the morning.

Blackman described how Ziggy had spent his life in this country offering a “message of hope” and his famous plea of ‘Do not hate’.”
