Rivkin misses out on rhythmic gymnastics final

Neta Rivkin has missed out on Saturday’s individual all-around competition final, after falling just 0.759 points short of a top-ten finish in Friday’s qualifying campaign.

Competing in her third Olympic Games, she finished seventh in London four years ago, and began her routine with the ball, where she scored 8.800 for difficulty and 9.066 for execution, giving her an overall score of 17.866 and an impressive fifth place overall.

However, it started to go wrong for her in the second rotation, the hoop, where she scored 8.275 for difficulty and 8.766 for execution, giving her 17.041 points overall – and a ranking of 18th.

Halfway through the qualifying stage, with the clubs and ribbon still to go, and with the top ten go through to the final, the Israeli sat in 13th place, with an overall score of 34.907 points.

In her first rotation of the evening session – the ribbon  – she claimed a total of 16.783 points, 8.250 for difficulty and 8.533 for execution, giving her a total of 16.783 points which was the 10th best overall.

In her final performance, the clubs, she recorded 17.533 points, 8.500 for difficulty and 9.033 for execution, which overall saw her finish in tenth.

She said: “I gave my all, but things didn’t work out for me. The mistakes cost me a place in the final. I’m going to take a break before deciding what to do next.”

Israeli interest in the rhythmic gymnasts isn’t over yet though, as Yuval Filo, Alona Koshevatskiy, Ekaterina Levina, Karina Lykhvar and Ida Mayrin, are all competing for Israel in the Group All-Around competition, with the qualifying for the final beginning early on Saturday afternoon.
