Russell Brand has apologised for an ‘insensitive and anti-Semitic’ comment, in which he called an audience member a ‘young Nazi’ – only to find out he was Jewish.

The incident occurred when someone in the audience raised his hand during  show at the ‘Proud Archivist’ in East London.

The popular comedian, 40, who has over 10 million followers on Twitter, suggested that by raising his hand, it resembled a Hitler salute. He said: “Yes, the young Nazi in the back row” according to the Mail.

The audience member shouted back ‘I’m Jewish!’, leaving an embarrassed and apologetic Brand.

He instantly said sorry, adding “‘It was insensitive and anti-Semitic”.
