Sacha Baron Cohen’s Borat sequel scoops top honours at Golden Globe Awards
The film shows Donald Trump's lawyer Rudy Giuliani in potentially compromising scene
Sacha Baron Cohen’s new Borat film took top honours at this year’s Golden Globe Awards.
Borat Subsequent Moviefilm, released nearly 15 years after the hit first instalment, was named best musical or comedy film during Sunday’s ceremony.
Baron Cohen also won best actor for his role as the lead character.
The event was hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, but guests attended remotely because of coronavirus restrictions.
Baron Cohen used his acceptance speech to thank Rudy Giuliani, the lawyer and former New York mayor, who made an unsuspecting cameo.
He is seen laying back on a bed and appears to reach into his trousers.
Giuliani, who was working as former president Donald Trump’s personal attorney at the time, denies any impropriety.
Baron Cohen called Giuliani “a fresh new talent who came from nowhere and turned out to be a comedy genius.
“I mean, who could get more laughs from one unzipping?”
He then joked that Donald Trump was “contesting the result” of the award].
The hit Netflix series Unorthodox failed to win on the night after receiving two nominations.
Israeli actress Shira Haas, who appeared as Esty Shapiro in the miniseries, lost out the Best Actress award to The Queen’s Gamit’s Anya Taylor-Joy.
