School officials purchased land from Barnet Council last week which they now plan to use to expand the school facilities.

A Finchley Jewish primary school will expand after successfully buying land next to the school building from Barnet Council.

The trust which runs Sacks Morasha Jewish Primary School on Stanhope Road purchased the land last week and now hopes to incorporate it into the school playground while finalising plans.

The development comes nine years after the land was first bought by the council, with school trustees and council officials negotiating intensely over the past year.

Elliot Goodman, Foundation Governor, hailed the “milestone” in the school’s history, saying it would pave the way for a “prosperous future”.

The trust chairman, Jeremy Newman, added: “We have spent many years working to secure this land and we are looking forward to further enhancing the school and its facilities for the benefit of current and future pupils.”

The playground extension is hoped to be completed in time for September, while school officials plan other ways to expand the school building’s footprint.
