Search for ‘sex attack victim’ who took shelter at Jewish centre

Police urge a woman to come forward, after reportedly taking refuge in JW3 to escape a suspected rapist's attention

Police are calling for a woman who took refuge in Jewish community centre JW3 around 8.45pm on Tuesday 16 August to come forward.

The white female, who is described as being about 5ft 7in with long dark hair, is understood to have dived into the Finchley Road centre in order to escape the attentions of a man police believe may have been responsible for an attempted rape 40 minutes earlier.

The woman, who left Finchley Road and Frognal Rail Station at around 8.40pm, is being sought by police who hope she can confirm whether her pursuer is the same man who tried to rape an 18-year old girl at knife-point in Billy Fury Way. A 22-year old man has been arrested and charged in relation to that attack.

“If you recognise yourself from this description please come forward,” said Detective Constable Scott Barefoot of the West Hampstead incident.

“It is really important because shortly before this incident another woman was the victim of an attempted rape and we need to establish whether these events are linked and if you have any information that could help our enquiries.”
