Seeds of Success! Youngsters get planting to mark new year for trees
Hertsmere Jewish Primary School teamed up with Seed UK to send out 500 packets of basil seeds to children, as well as organising virtual Tu B'Shevat events

A fruitful collaboration between Hertsmere Jewish Primary School and Seed UK saw nearly 500 youngsters celebrate Tu B’Shevat in style, last Thursday.
The school’s PTA and Jewish Studies department teamed up with the education charity to send out hundreds of packets of basil seeds for pupils to plant at home to mark the Jewish birthday of the trees.
Year One pupils also enjoyed a virtual Tu B’Shevat Seder, while older years were treated to a fruit art demonstration from Miriam Sternlicht.
PTA Chair Jane Goodman said: “It was lovely to be able to bring a smile to the faces of our children.”
Orah Soller, head of Jewish Studies, said: “This was the first-time celebrating Tu B’Shevat in lockdown. I am thrilled to say that it was all a huge success.”
