Seth Rogen to throw bar mitzvah for James Franco…24 years late
He may be almost a quarter of a century late, but Oscar nominee James Franco is finally set for a long-overdue bar mitzvah – with a little help from fellow Jewish actor Seth Rogen.
The Rise of the Planet of the Apes star is 37 – and despite having a Jewish mother, is yet to properly become a man.
Luckily, however, his frequent collaborator Rogen – who had his bar mitzvah at 13 and has described his parents as “radical Jewish socialists” – has stepped in to fulfil what he says is a lifelong ambition.
Along with his wife, Lauren, the comedian and filmmaker will host a star-studded bar mitzvah for Franco in October at their annual Hilarity for Charity show in Hollywood.
The Canadian actor, who rose to fame alongside Franco in cult TV show Freaks & Geeks, said: “Since I’ve known James, he’s been talking about wanting a bar mitzvah.
“We’re excited to see him finally become a man while also helping us raise awareness and funds for people living with Alzheimer’s and towards research that will lead to a cure.
“And in celebration we’ll also have a mohel and a live bris for James at the event.”
Franco told fans on Instagram: “You KNOW you won’t want to miss this!!!”
“Seth Rogen and the gang are going to throw me a bar mitzvah!”
He can only hope that his bar mitzvah proves as beneficial to his Hollywood career as Rogen’s did.
The 33-year-old met his Superbad co-writer Evan Goldberg at bar mitzvah classes as a youngster – and the pair have earned almost $500 million from their string of Hollywood hits.
